Mark 9
Psalm 113
After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.
Mark 9:2-4
The transfiguration of Jesus is the drawing back of the veil with regards His identity. It gives us a peek to the future to see what really awaits Jesus – glory! When He begins to shine with God’s radiant glory up on the mountain and Moses and Elijah come to serve Him, it becomes clear who He is – He is God, the God of glory! The confirmation comes when God the Father speaks with an audible voice and says, “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”
He IS God – listen to Him! Listen to Jesus.
- Listen to His Kingly authority over darkness as He drives out an evil spirit (verse 25).
- Listen to His faithful promise when He says that He will suffer and die for our sins and will rise from the dead after 3 days (verse 31).
- Listen to His command and follow His example when He calls us to be a servant of all (verse 35).
- Listen to His merciful warning when He speaks about the horrors of hell (verse 43-48).
- Listen to Him!
Jesus words must be the loudest voice to echo in our minds and hearts because His is the voice of God!
Jesus is our source of life and the controller of our eternal destiny. Apart from Him there is nothing significant. Do you treasure His words in your life, in every pat of your life? Are you listening to Him?
Heavenly Father, please help us to have ears to ear the powerful voice of Your Son, Jesus in the Bible. Forgive us for being so reluctant to listen. Help us to hear Your Word today and live in obedience to it. Amen
